Photography Between Scientific Evidence and Interpretation

Is there a role for subjective interpretation and individual storytelling in medical science ? What is the role of photography - with its intrinsic ambiguity - in creating scientific and narrative evidence ? Dr. Massimo Costantini (Director of the Reggio Emilia IRCCS Research Institute) and Dr. Chiara Bassi (Director of the IRCCS Medical Library) invited Luca De Fiore (Medical Journalist and Publisher), Luca Panaro (Art Critic and Professor at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts) and myself on a talk at the Library of the Reggio Emilia S. Maria Nuova Teaching Hospital (September 20, 2017).

Photography, Science and Truth: Dangerous Liaisons

On October 2, 2017 Dr. Marina Davoli and Dr. Laura Amato invited Luca De Fiore (Medical journalist, publisher) and myself in Rome, at the Alessandro Liberati Library (Department of Epidemiology of the Region Lazio) to give a lecture on how the nature of photographs may influence our perception of visual diagnostics, from the pioneers of medical imaging in the Ninenteenth Century, to nowadays' hi-tech radiology.
